Home and Away actress Tessa James was diagnosed with cancer when she was 23
Home and Away actress Tessa James has shared an update after being diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphona at the age of 23.
The actress penned a moving post to mark ten years since her life-changing diagnosis.
Alongside a series of photos, James opened up about how much her life has changed since she was diagnosed with cancer.
Now cancer-free, the actress said she’s “grateful for this journey.”
She shared: “10 years ago today, I underwent 6 months of chemotherapy treatment after being diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma.
“Today, I’m proud to say that I’m cancer-free, with 4 beautiful, healthy kids. Grateful for this journey and everything that came with it.”
Speaking about her diagnosis in 2018, the actress admitted it stripped her of who she is.
She told Women’s Health Magazine: “Going through something like (cancer) strips you of who you are, not only physically but mentally.”
As harrowing as it was, the actress said her diagnosis brought her family closer together.
“We were always a close family, but it brought us closer in some ways because they’ve seen you in places and doing things that no one else has.”
Her followers praised the actress for being so hopeful and honest about her cancer diagnosis.
One wrote: “Your strength and resilience is so inspiring. Such a beauty and radiant light.”
Another added: “My husband had non Hodgkin’s while I was pregnant with our second child. I know how hard the fight was. You are truly inspiring and brave!”
“So great you’re at the other end of the ‘Journey’ – it can be tough and relentless,” another wrote.
Tessa is best known for playing Nicole Franklin in Home and Away.
