The “XXpen$ive” singer and mother of 32-year-old Tommy Zizzo usually keeps quiet about her only child, an L.A.P.D. officer whose private life means he stays far away from the Bravo cameras.

Erika: I’m very proud of my son being in law enforcement, but obviously, it can get a little nerve-wracking. You know, he’s, um … it’s a dangerous profession.
Erika always knew her son would join the force
Erika (continued): I’ve known my son was going to be in law enforcement since the time he could walk and talk. That’s all he’s ever wanted, and, you know, that’s kind of your role as a parent, is to honor who your children really are.

Erika on her son’s dating life
Erika (continued): I don’t have any requirements for my son, who he dates, because he’s an adult. He has good judgment and he has a great head on his shoulders. So, whoever he chooses to date, I’m sure they’re lovely. I’m not going to run his life. He has to run his own. I think he’s doing a great job.
Erika on life as a single mother
Erika (continued): You know, single moms have it tough. It’s hard, it’s exhaustive, but at the same time, it’s very rewarding. You know, especially now that he’s older and he’s doing so well, I think that’ really, you know, makes the struggle worth it.
