Kailyn Lowry never expected to become a reality star.
Now, she’s hoping that she will be able to leave that stage of her career behind.
Kailyn, who first appeared on TV in an episode of MTV’s 16 & Pregnant, now has seven children and is engaged to Elijah Scott. He is the father of her three youngest.
In an interview with People, the 33-year-old opened up about how she ended up getting cast for the show along with her boyfriend at the time Jo Rivera.
Kailyn was already coping with serious challenges in her life, noting that at the time of her pregnancy, “I was no longer even living with my mom. I was already living with Jo and his parents.”
Her decision to share her life with cameras was made out of “pure desperation” to give Isaac a good life.
“I needed money. I needed to go to college,” she recalled to the outlet. “I needed to be able to provide for myself and for my son.
“And at that time — by April I knew that I was going to be trying to get out of Jo’s parents’ house pretty quickly — so there was just desperation to find stability on my own.”
Kail noted, “That’s not saying that Jo’s family wouldn’t have helped me, but I needed to be out on my own and to know that I could do it. And financially speaking, that was the driving force.”
