Home and Away star Matt Evans has been called out after a bizarre video he posted on social media.
The actor, 27, has played Theo Poulos on the Australian soap for three years. His character came to Summer Bay after being kicked out by his dad Dimitri (Salvatore Coco) for scamming customers at his car dealership.
More recently, viewers have seen Theo struggling with a drug addiction, and later consider quitting his band.
In real life, Matt is a singer and is embarking on a European tour. He was a contestant on The Voice Australia in 2020, with his single ‘Sold’ released in April.
However, earlier this month he was called out for his unusual method of promotion.
In a video posted to his Instagram page, he can be seen driving around and asking random women if they would like to get inside and listen to his new track.
Despite the innocent intentions, he can be seen saying: ‘I’ve never done this before…hopefully someone wants to listen’ before approaching someone and asking their name.
After she responds with her name, Bella, he continues: ‘Would you mind, if you want to, come in the car and listen to a new song of mine? We’re just driving around to see if people want to have a listen and see what they think.’
Bella then begins to walk backwards, replying: ‘No, thank you! Good luck, though!’ before running away.
Clearly realising that his request could be perceived in the wrong way, he says to himself: ‘Oh, I’m so embarrassed.’
Fans quickly jumped into the comments, with one posting: ‘Who does something like that these days with all the crime and violence going on. STRANGER DANGER alert ! Maybe go busking next time.’
Another added: ‘Next time don’t ask a girl on her own. Go for a group and pull over and play it, don’t invite them to get in the car. Babe, did you really expect a woman to just climb into a strangers car!? You didn’t think it through.’

Some questioned the legitimacy of the incident, and as to whether she was a paid actor for the video.
‘People thinking it’s real and not staged and it’s his friend’ said one, whilst another said: ‘lol surely this was satire. Woman are smart these days. Awww don’t worry she just didn’t want to get in a car with a stranger.’
