Evans stars in the new crime drama A Remarkable Place to Die, which follows Detective Anais Rae as she unravels local mysteries while confronting her own tangled past.

Evans plays Maja Staunton, a local gym owner whose life intertwines awkwardly with Anais’.

“Maja is an Aussie living in Queenstown,” Evans explained in an interview with 9Entertainment.

“She and Anais used to be close friends back when Anais was dating Luke. But now, Maja and Luke are married. So… that’s awkward, to say the least.”

On how she got the role, Evans revealed: “I auditioned via self-tape. The producers wanted to meet, so we had a Zoom chat. I loved their vision for the series and how nice and down-to-earth they were.”

She was immediately hooked when she read the script. “After reading episode one, I immediately wanted to know what happened next. So that’s usually a good sign,” she said.

Evans burst onto Aussie screens at just 13 years old.

It was her role as Matilda Hunter on the iconic soap Home and Away that cemented her place as one of the country’s most beloved young stars.

From there, she swapped Summer Bay for the fantasy world of H2O: Just Add Water, where she made waves as a mermaid.

In A Remarkable Place To Die, Evans stars alongside the legendary Rebecca Gibney as well as Charles Grounds and Chelsea Preston Crayford.

“I have always admired Rebecca’s work, so I was stoked to be cast alongside her,” Evans gushed. “She is kind to everyone on set, always professional, and sets a great example.”

In addition to her role in A Remarkable Place To Die, it’s a busy time for Evans who recently also starred opposite Chris Hemsworth (a Home and Away reunion!) and Russell Crowe in Thor: Love and Thunder.

Working in picturesque Queenstown proved to be a bonding experience for the cast.

“Charles and I got along really well and went full-on enthusiastic-tourist-mode together,” Evans laughed.

“Chelsea impressed me so much – she had these long days with so much dialogue, but she was always a joy to work with and delivered great performances.”

The stunning New Zealand location is practically its own character in the series. “The show has captured [Queenstown] beautifully,” Evans said.

“It’s also a thrill-seeker’s paradise with hikes, bungee jumping, and paragliding. I’m not that person. I just ate great food and enjoyed the vistas while sitting still.”

Evans can’t wait for audiences to dive into A Remarkable Place to Die.

“I’m excited to see everyone follow the overarching mystery of the series,” she said. “I want to hear people’s theories!”
